River and Lake Ice Processes—Impacts of Freshwater Ice on Aquatic Ecosystems in a Changing Globe

摘要: This special issue focuses on the effects of ice cover surface water bodies, specifically rivers and lakes. Background information motivation addressing this topic is first introduced with some selected references highlighting key points in research field. A summary synthesis eleven contributions then provided, focusing three aspects that provide structure issue: Physical processes, quality, sustainability. We have placed these broader context field identified knowledge gaps which impede our ability both to understand current conditions, likely consequences changing winters diversity freshwater ecosystems subject seasonal cover.
