摘要: Abstract Information on the amount, distribution, and characteristics of coarse woody debris (CWD) in forest ecosystems is high demand by wildlife biologists, fire specialists, ecologists. In its important role habitat, fuel loading, productivity, carbon sequestration, CWD an indicator health. Because this, USDA Forest Service Pacific Northwest Research Station’s Inventory Analysis (FIA) program recognized need to collect data their extensive resource inventories. This paper describes a sampling method, measurement protocols, estimation procedures compile attributes within FIA’s inventory. The line-intersect method was used sample inside boundaries standard inventory field plot. Previously published equations were customized allow for easy calculation per-unit-area values, such as biomass per hectare, log density or volume each These estimates are associated with all other information recorded calculated allows indepth analysis relation stand level characteristics. can be address current, relevant issues criteria no. 5 outlined 1994 Montreal process 1995 Santiago declaration. assesses contribution forests global cycle measuring indicators CWD, live plant biomass, soil carbon.
