摘要: Our objective was to identify the semiochemicals that mediate attraction of webbing clothes moth (WCM), Tineola bisselliella (Lepidoptera: Tineidae), suitable larval habitat. Coupled gas chromatographic-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) analyses Porapak Q-captured bioactive volatiles from horseshoe crab, and dried but untanned vertebrate pelts revealed numerous EAD-active volatiles. These were identified by comparative GC-mass spectrometry GC-EAD natural synthetic compounds. A blend 28 candidate attracted both male female WCM. Experiments deleting various components determined saturated aldehydes—but not unsaturated aldehydes, hydrocarbons, alcohols, or ketones—were essential for attractiveness. nonanal, single most attractive aldehyde, in combination with geranylacetone more WCM than 28-component dried, animal pelt. Selection habitat resides WCM, as indicated stronger EAD responses antennae habitat-derived semiochemicals, selective early response cues males females. Exploitation nonanal resource-derived adult its parasitoid, Apanteles carpatus, is an example convergent semiochemical parsimony.
