Changing Sibling Relationships After Parents' Death: The Role of Solidarity and Kinkeeping

摘要: Background The solidarity hypothesis predicts a short‐term strengthening of sibling relationships after parental death, whereas the kinkeeping long‐term weakening death. Method Hypotheses were tested with fixed effects regression models using four waves Netherlands Kinship Panel Study (2003–2015; N = 3,812 respondents), nationally representative sample individuals in Netherlands. This survey combined data on ties intergenerational to (surviving) parents. Results Consistent hypothesis, results showed that contact intensified increase lasted longer losing first parent and was partially explained by changes support surviving parent. After death second parent, conflict between siblings increased, but these short‐lived. In line relations among adult orphans faded long run.
