Parasite responses to pollution: what we know and where we go in ‘Environmental Parasitology’

摘要: Environmental parasitology deals with the interactions between parasites and pollutants in environment. Their sensitivity to environmental disturbances makes many parasite taxa useful indicators of health anthropogenic impact. Over last 20 years, three main research directions have been shown be highly promising relevant, namely as accumulation for selected pollutants, effect indicators, role interacting established bioindicators. The current paper focuses on potential use pollution their hosts. By reviewing some most recent findings field parasitology, we summarize state art try identify ideas future directions. In detail, address suitability possible application demonstrate biological availability pollutants; pollutant sinks; interaction biomarkers focusing combined effects parasitism hosts; contaminants ecosystem health. Therefore, this review highlights at different scales, from organismal ecosystem.
