摘要: A method and apparatus for communicating streaming data, such as audio video streams, isochronously over a network. The invention may be utilized with power-line communication (50) networks or other IP-based networks. Hardware (82) is configured packetizing the MPEG which communicated at IP physical layer within contention-free period each cycle (32a 32b). reservation mechanism utilizes back-offs to allow single transmitter reserve slot isochronous of given stream data. processing element handles only asynchronous data remaining portion referred contention (34), number transmitters vie during that interval. Addressing performed MAC addressing instead addressing. Existing stack protocols can reused upper control mechanisms.
