Factors Influencing Knowledge of and Adherence to Self-care Among Patients With Heart Failure

摘要: Background Patient education has been shown to be a key component in comprehensive heart failure management. Few data, however, are available regarding patients' knowledge of and adherence self-care recommendations for the disease. Objectives To assess level among patients with determine associated factors. Methods We conducted needs-assessment survey new visiting clinic from April 1997 through June 1998. Multiple linear regression analysis was used factors predictive behaviors. Results Of 113 surveyed, 77% were referred by cardiologists 60% had New York Heart Association class III or IV status. Two thirds reported receiving information advice about health care providers. When asked how much they knew congestive failure, 37% said "a little nothing," 49% "some," only 14% lot." Approximately 40% did not recognize importance weighing themselves daily 27% weighed twice month less often. Although 80% should limit their salt intake, one third always avoided salty foods. Additionally, 25% appreciate risk alcohol use 36% believed drink lot fluids. The multiple indicated that higher score being married, prior hospitalization, having received both physicians nurses. A poor behavior unmarried, lower perceived self-efficacy, lack self-care, no hospitalization. Conclusions observed gap between absorbing retaining on supplied Self-care needs directed outpatients addition inpatients.
