摘要: Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of individualized progressive resistance strength training (PRT) program in improving confidence level among institutionalized elderly with balance impairment, comparison traditional exercise (TBE), and combination both (COMBI). Place Duration Study: The study was conducted between June 2008 December 2012 geriatric care homes, Mangalore, India. METHODS: eligible subjects were assigned to 3 groups (TBE, PRT COMBI) using block randomization technique allocation concealment done. group received for key muscles (hip flexors, extensors abductors, knee flexors extensors, ankle dorsiflexors plantar flexors) essential maintenance balance. TBE conventional participants COMBI interventions alternately. All three their respective 4 times a week 6 months. data collected at baseline, 3rd 6th month analysis performed Statistical Package Social Sciences (SPSS) version 15. Both per-protocol intention treat methods analyses used. RESULTS: Mean age 54 (18 each group) 75.17 years baseline variables revealed homogeneity groups. Between six months, all showed notable reduction Falls Efficacy Scale (FES) scores. change scores (pre-post intervention) FES groups, but statistical test did not reveal any significant differences CONCLUSION: Individualized structured intervention targeting lower limbs maintenance, period is comparable falls efficacy. This turn reduces self-induced functional restrictions non-frail people living homes. Keywords : Balance exercise; elderly; efficacy; training; self-efficacy. Language: en
