摘要: An attempt was made to modify the surface microstructure of a sensitized austenitic stainless steel, without affecting bulk properties, using laser melting techniques. AISI type 316 steel specimens at 923 K for 20 hr were melted pulsed ruby 6 J energy. Two successive pulses given ensure uniform and homogenization. The layers characterized by small angle X- ray diffraction scanning electron microscopy. Intergranular corrosion tests carried out on region as per ASTM A262 practice A (etch test) electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation test. results indicated an improvement in intergranular resistance after melting. are explained basis homogeneous nonsensitized obtained It is concluded that can be used situ method increase life component modifying microstructure.
