摘要: Heron Island has been the focal point for research on southern Great Barrier Reef Province last 80 years. is an excellent example of a lagoonal platform reef with sand cay developed its leeward end, displaying typical morphological, sedimentological and ecological zonations allowing comparison their windward development. Limited subsurface data indicate that total section only 150 m thick, consisting stacked limestone packages, gently eastward sloping solution disconformity delineating base c. 15 Holocene growth. growth does not appear to fit "classical" model, evidence much progradation margin relative associated margin. Large dredged blocks reefal material provide new abundance in situ framework importance microbialite unification process.
