Design of several liquid-liquid extraction columns — packed, pulsed-packed, pulsed-plate, Oldshue-Rushton and the rotating disc contactor was attempted utilizing available correlations for drop size, holdup dispersed phase, flooding velocities, mass transfer coefficients axial mixing coefficients. Correlations in many cases were vaguely defined often based on very limited data. Results indicated that given flow rates efficiency, height a packed or column must be considerably greater than predicted minimum heights other three columns, which comparable considering data utilized developed correlations. A critical evaluation should carried out to guide further experimental effort required confirm utility dispersion model design. Extension theory include size variation is highly desirable.
