摘要: Field studies on the biting habits of Culicoides barbosai Wirth & Blanton were made near Montego Bay, Jamaica, during 1959 and 1960. Females C. collected in sufficient numbers for analysis in. seven experiments, six from Florida beach one Beading. Four positions marked out each site. Begular meteorological observations middle catching positions. An experiment consisted four trials held different days, trial being composed collecting periods 15 min. separated by 5-min. intervals. In period individuals collected, two exposing an arm a leg. Individuals position trial.Catches logarithmically transformed tests significance. The experiments designed to provide correction factors limbs, beach, collectors, use other experiments. Correction are given as logarithms application catches.More arms than legs, catches IV significantly higher those I, II III. Five collectors (C, D, K, L S) compared. ratio between leg/arm who only was C, S. differences K insignificant, but all three caught more smaller after sea bathing and, compared C S, L’s increased immediately sunset. For this reason avoid inhibiting winds, quantitative females best conducted early morning (dawn + 40 min.).The experimental errors (residual variances) homogeneous with probabilities 0.1 (C. barbosai—7 experiments) 0.4 furens (Poey)—8 experiments).
