Household-level drinking water quality, access, and management practices within an informal community: a case study at Rio das Pedras, Rio de Janeiro

摘要: Inter-household patterns in drinking water access, consumption, perception, and quality among residents can vary Rio das Pedras (RdP), a large favela de Janeiro, Brazil. While unreliable influence to diversify their supply, household management practices are not generally known for this community. Household surveys, indoor tap, piped before entering the home, filtered, or bottled dispenser samples were collected. Respondents reported storing (91%) near-daily access (78%). A majority of households cleaning storage tanks at least once every six months. Also, rely on considerable proportion supplemented supply with at-home filtered water. The safety these sources necessarily superior tap water, especially under conditions appropriate tank cleaning. Higher prevalence total coliform detections was found characteristics such as home ownership, residence type, time exhibited positive association improved Community health practitioners could evaluate storage, filtration maintenance, systems using promote protective actions.
