摘要: Metaphors are common in our ecological and conservation language. They help us understand complex issues communicate them to different audiences. We propose two new metaphors: ecosystem leaks clogs that can the role of flows among ecosystems (inflows outflows), impacts anthropogenic perturbations these within beyond boundaries. grasp need for a broader outlook restoration goes level. define an leak as any net loss natural capital from with potential exerting long-term transformative effect. As its name implies, clog is opposite leak, we it total or partial obstruction ecosystem, between ecosystems. Leaks create clogs, vice versa, they occur cyclic succession causing cascading effects affect not just but social cultural well. focus on ones which society does invest adequate attention efforts.
