摘要: [1] The outstanding exposure of deformation bands in a multilayer sequence the Orange quarry, Provence, France, motivates study investigating development and controls band geometries by field mapping combined with finite element modeling. Field yields new insights into angular relations between, evolution of, as well provides input parameters for setup boundary conditions numerical simulations using ADELI 2D. In particular, reverse-sense are found to have developed within three four exposed layers stack similar orientations bedding, indicating layer-parallel contraction. Numerical simulations, carried out parametric investigate influence on geometry, successfully reproduce sequential seen recreate observed ∼39° maximum compression. This relationship is put context observations from other studies theoretical values explore orientations. Furthermore, localization impeded model increased layer cohesive strength, demonstrating importance host-rock property variations sequence. Results both investigation consistent regional tectonics, where strata underwent gentle folding due thrust faulting at depth, bring further insight geometry extensional contractional tectonic regimes.
