摘要: Nonlinear internal waves (NIWs) induce strong surface currents which are observable in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. SAR images of the Kuroshio show parabolic features around Japan's Izu Islands implying possible NIWs. Most were taken during summer when approached islands, and winds relatively weak. Nonhydrostatic numerical simulations revealed that mode 1 not trapped but higher modes, with lower propagation speeds, trapped. The convergence field predicted by model reproduces prominent, observed Based on this agreement, we suggest NIWs generated detected manifestations these Specific atmospheric oceanic conditions conducive for NIW detection defined.
