摘要: Organic matter within the pedosphere derives from natural and increasingly anthropogenic sources. Vegetation comprises major source of organic input into soils, where this serves as a substrate for soil microbiota macrobiota, which may constitute up to one third biomass in soils. Although dominant fraction is macromolecular, free bound lipids an important compound class highly diagnostic value reconciliation biological sources alteration processes. Hydrocarbons their functionalized analogs have long residence times soils allowing reconstruction recent fossil environmental conditions changes thereof. Long-chain acylic compounds cyclic terpenoids derived cuticular are employed land-use change paleoclimate evolution. Short-chain components, particular fatty acids, indicative microbial community structures biogeochemical frequently occur contaminants due spillage petroleum (products) ubiquitous emissions fuel or combustion.
