摘要: Recent studies of marine protists have revealed parasites to be key components communities. Here we describe a new species the parasitoid genus Parvilucifera that was observed infecting dinoflagellate Durinskia baltica in salt marshes Catalan coast (NW Mediterranean). In parallel, same detected after incubation seawater from Canary Islands (Lanzarote, NE Atlantic). The successful isolation strains both localities allowed description life cycle, ultrastructure, and phylogeny species. Its infection mechanism consists free-living zoospore penetrates cell. resulting trophont gradually degrades cytoplasm while growing size. Once host is consumed, schizogony yields sporocyte. After cytokinesis complete, newly formed zoospores are released into environment ready infect cells. A distinguishing feature radial arrangement its around central area sporocyte during their formation. shows close morphological similarity with other genus, including P. infectans, sinerae, rostrata.
