摘要: The sea ice continues to be an important part of life in Inuit communities, and local Elders hunters wanted have their detailed knowledge the documented help share with youth. Developing siku (sea ice) Atlas was seen as one way sharing this expertise more broadly, youth schools across Nunavut, scientists interested northern marine environment, general public. Through long-term working relationships, funding from International Polar Year Sea Ice Use Occupancy Project, Cape Dorset, Igloolik, Pangnirtung, worked researchers develop reflect uses ice. In chapter, we provide some background on evolution project rationale for development. We then highlight key components Atlas, well technical innovations that emerged through efforts address community interests. Finally, lessons learned process creation, including necessary emphasis relationality, need ongoing consultations verification, incredible time commitments involved, amount dedicated conceptualization, importance having accessible expertise, ensure becomes a living resource.
