摘要: Between 1980 and 1982 much of Australia was surveyed from the air to estimate density distribution kangaroos. The area covered 5.8 million square kilometres (75% Australia) included most three commercial species. Numbers were estimated as 8.3 red kangaroos, Macropus rufus, 1.8 western grey M. fuliginosus, 5.0 eastern giganteus. unsurveyed highlands probably hold a further 4 greys, allowing tentative overall for 1981 19 kangaroos in mainland Australia. (Note added February 2005: Because revised correction factors, particularly both species it is now known that these values are under-estimates.)
