摘要: Abstract In this case–control pilot study a recent method based on HPLC hyphenated to ICP-MS was employed for the quantification of serum glutathione peroxidase type 3 (GPx3), seleno-protein P (SelP) and seleno-albumin (SeAlb) in 42 patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) 20 controls. Patients early stage (TNM I) showed significantly higher level SeAlb (19 ± 3 ng/mL) respect both metastatic CRC IV, 16 ± 4 ng/mL) healthy controls (16 ± 3 ng/mL). Classification models logistic regression analysis, classification trees artificial neural networks were constructed using seleno-proteins concentrations as predictors. Neural lead best performances, up 95% corrected predictions TNM I vs. discrimination. These results suggest potential association between individual progression. Age radiochemoteraphy assessed confounding factors, showing no significant effects. Still, tended reduce age persons, but did not patients. Seleno-proteins concentration also compared number clinical parameters considered prognostic factors CRC. Significant Spearman's correlations revealed SelP SeAlb, presence peritumoural lymphocytic infiltration (ρ = − 0.57 ρ = − 0.37, respectively); degree cellular differentiation (grading, ρ = − 0.37).
