摘要: Abstract Blunt carotid artery trauma is an uncommon but potentially dangerous clinical entity. We report eight patients from a 10-year interval who sustained blunt injuries to the arteries. Six of suffered hyperextension injury or had cervical spine fracture both. Arteriography revealed four arterial dissections and thrombotic occlusions. Two asymptomatic common occlusions one dissection with transient ischemic attacks successful reconstructions. Five were treated nonoperatively: three internal minor no neurologic deficit; thrombosis; thrombosis major fixed deficit that did not improve. No patient died, seven made complete recovery remained asymptomatic. The diagnosis should be suspected in neck fractures as well deficits explained by intracranial trauma. Duplex scanning may useful noninvasive study. Surgery indicated for selected accessible lesions have deficits. Asymptomatic small intimal flaps successfully nonoperatively.
