摘要: Summary. 1 Sterile soil was inoculated with a known quantity of spores four different fungi, incubated at 9°C. and intervals representative samples were plated out by the dilution method an analysis the. plate population made. Results showed that high counts not in any way connected vegetative growth supported Conn's idea such case one is simply measuring sporing capacity forms used. 2 Samples moist which had been dried vacuum desiccator over calcium chloride number fungal colonies per compared. A marked decrease noted sample. The reduced pressure found to have no effect as drying under ordinary air-pressure gave comparable results. 3 Suspensions soil, sand, fragmented mycelia mixture spores, turn directly after drying. No developed from sample containing only mycelia, whereas affected. It suggested therefore obtained due desiccation mycelium since reduction very pronounced this treatment, it. thought normal constituents are present extensively mycelial condition. In conclusion I should like acknowledge my indebtedness gratitude Sir John Russell for offering me hospitality Rothamsted Experimental Station Dr W. B. Brierley, Head Department Mycology, placing disposal all facilities his encouragement helpful eritieism during work Station.
