摘要: Abstract Purpose: The purposes of this study were to describe the concerns patients and their spouses after a diagnosis colon cancer identify ways in which health care professionals could assist both cope more effectively with illness its treatment. Design: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. Setting Subjects: Thirty completed interviews homes. Most (83%) had undergone partial resection, 77% no evidence adjacent lymph nodes. Twelve (40%) colostomy at time data collected. Methods: Patients participated semistructured that elicited information concerning reactions cancer, (if present), changes lifestyle, satisfaction they received, them treatments. Content analysis was used analyze interview group into inductively derived categories. Interrater reliability obtained by having 2 researchers independently code data. Results: Spouses tended regard negatively than did patents. Both reported fear cancer's recurrence greatest concern. also lifestyle (80%) as result illness; but functional ability, whereas roles relationships. Half most (75%) favorable reaction colostomy. Approximately half couples expressed received; need for about treatments management side effects. When asked how help them, stated wanted expected course recovery.
