摘要: Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, directive, client-centered therapy designed to develop discrepancy and resolve ambivalence by eliciting reinforcing client Change Talk. However, the exact link between process engaged in during MI outcome only starting be uncovered. The present thesis has replicated expanded on current knowledge of relationship Therapist Client Behaviours a MI-based intervention (Motivational Enhancement Therapy; MET) outcome, provided support for emergent theory inner workings MI. This was achieved coding 106 audiotaped MET sessions primarily methods outlined Skill Code Version 2.0. Data drawn from 28 participants who received 3-4 with contest randomised controlled trial mild-moderate alcohol dependence at Community Alcohol Drug Service Christchurch. were analysed within (categorised into Early, Mid, or End Intervals) across sessions, compared whether had drank national drinking guidelines 6-months after (Controlled Drinkers). In terms it found that Uncontrolled Drinkers (Compared Controlled Drinkers) uttered significantly higher frequency Sustain Talk, lower Ability Language strength (over all Intervals), Commitment (during Session 2 4, change over MET). Giving Information Behaviour where significant differences observed MET, given Drinkers. Intervals Sessions, Advise without Permission Emphasise Control statements. most instances MI-Consistent associated Language, MI-Inconsistent Behaviour, Direct, strength. Limitations these results include small sample, limited ability make inferences about causality, coder biases, uneven reliability. this exploratory study unique investigating examining factors multiple produced number potentially valuable findings warrant further investigation.
