摘要: This article attempts to map the relations between nation-building processes in 19th-century Europe and city cultures with their urban sociability. Three patterns are surveyed: [1] modern-national assimilation of medieval early-modern (sample case: Orleans French cult Joan Arc); [2] modular replication across cities festivals as cultural mobilizers spread Floral Games Southern France Northern Spain); [3] reticulation city-based practices into a nationwide network cases: role choral societies German nationalism; its transnational knock-on effect Baltic Provinces). By choosing our social focus placing it (or rather, ideal-type �Urbania�) alongside Gellner's ideal-types �Megalomania� �Ruritania�, we can avoid finalism studying regionalist nationalist movements analytical framework post-Versailles state system, gain better understanding granulated, localized basis such translocally homogenizing culture.
