摘要: The leaf of New Zealand flax, Phormium tenax, has been tested in tension to determine some its fracture properties. mechanical and properties the are almost totally dictated by high content stiff, strong fibres, which orientated parallel along leaf. shock waves generated when fibres break have found interact with process, because events always occur phase waves. forces displacements large enough be significant during fracture. This may why grazers such as sheep geese snatch at grass rather than pull evenly cows do: they generating a wave will aid results also implications for unidirectional composites general.
