摘要: Abstract A useful measure of diversity was calculated for microbial communities collected from lake water and sediment samples using the Shannon index (H′) rarefaction [E(S)]. Isolates were clustered by a numerical taxonomy approach in which limited (<20) tests used so that groups obtained represented level resolution other than species. The value each sample affected number used; however, relative compared among several sampling locations same whether 11 or 19 characters examined. isolates (i.e., size) strongly influenced H′ unequal sized could not be compared. Rarefaction accounts differences size inherently such comparisons are made simple. Due to type carried out microbiologists, is estimated determined therefore requires statement error associated with it. Failure report provided potentially misleading results. Calculation variance simple matter may impossible when handling large samples. With rarefaction, E(S) readily determined, facilitating comparison many
