The Role of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in Community Acquired Pneumonia

摘要: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) affects 3 to 4 million patients annually in the United States, and accounts for > 600,000 hospitalizations (1,2). HoweverPseudomonas aeruginosais a rare cause of CAP, implicated fewer than 2% cases. The vast majority cases are caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae Hemophilus influenzae, atypical pathogens (Legionella sppMycoplasma Chlamydia pneumoniae)(1,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20). Enteric gram-negative bacteria occur 2-9% CAP requiring hospitalization, but almost exclusively affect with comorbidities. SimilarlyP. aeruginosavirtually never causes young, previously healthy adults, may specific risk factors or significant underlying disease(s) (see Table I).
