摘要: Background The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and clinical presentation intestinal malrotation from infancy through adulthood by examining experience a single institution caring for patients all ages with condition. Methods We conducted retrospective review on diagnosed at Massachusetts General Hospital between 1992 2009. Patient demographics, history, diagnostic tests, operative procedures, outcome variables were recorded. Patients divided into 3 age groups: infants ( Results identified 170 patients, whom 31% infants, 21% children, 48% adults. Infants nearly always presented emesis (93%), whereas adults most commonly abdominal pain (87%), less often (37%) or nausea (31%). volvulus declined age, 37% 22% 12%, in each groups, respectively. Although within hours days symptom onset, 59% children 32% experienced symptoms years before diagnosis. Upper gastrointestinal series common imaging performed but replaced computed tomography All underwent Ladd's procedure, compared only 61% majority resolution after intervention, although decreased slightly age. Conclusion Intestinal can occur any and, contrast traditional teaching, half these may present during adulthood. An increased awareness entity an understanding its varied different reduce time diagnosis improve patient outcome.
