摘要: In this paper a novel “nodding mirror” infra-red line scanner is used to study the effect of additives on contact temperatures and hence scuffing in sliding point contact. The capable taking temperature profiles across very short time (less than 30 msec). objective capture history just prior during using lubricants with without additives. Tests were carried out device consisting steel ball loaded against stationary sapphire window. lubricant basestock was purified hexadecane. This chosen as it simple, low viscosity that forms negligible EHD film under conditions these tests. important one aims boundary additive response their effectiveness postponing or preventing failure. Temperature have been taken tests pure hexadecane containing (i) 1.0 wt% dibenzyldisulfide, an EP additive, (ii) 0.1 stearic acid, friction modifier.
