Determinants and consequences of obesity in adult Kuwaiti females

摘要: From the early fifties, economic upheaval created by oil boom brought rapid changes in traditional life style of Kuwaiti people that resulted a more sedentary lifestyle with high food availability and overnutrition. This led to an increase overweight obesity, which has become major public health problem. A representative random sample 324 adult females aged 20-60 years were selected cross-sectional study assess prevalence its characteristics, determinants, contributing factors, relation other co-morbidity. The was drawn from centre registration files between May 1996 to October 1997. Data collected using: semi-structured questionnaire, anthropometric measurements, biochemical analysis blood samples. Thirty-nine percent participants were 30-39 year age group, 73% were married, 56% at medium level education. Fifty-six the participants had BMI ::: 30.0 lean 32.0.
