摘要: Recent developments in education policy the USA have focused attention on language and literacy, especially for bilingual learners, US schools. More specifically, these efforts, prominently related to implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS), focus development ‘academic English’ immigrant students. The school contexts has renewed interest classic Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS)/Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency (CALP) distinction. article reviews BICS/CALP distinction relation other dichotomies proficiency, promotes an alternative view children known as second instructional competence, or SLIC.
