摘要: ABSTRACT Objective To review the spectrum of foot problems in patients with diabetes and underlying etiologic factors. Methods In this review, term “diabetic disease” (DFD) will be used (previously referred to as simply foot”). The relevant anatomy is discussed, clinical evaluation severity DFD are outlined, role both systemic control local measures management addressed. Results linked a wide variety associations, pathologic forms, severity. causes include such factors diabetic neuropathy, vascular insufficiency, presence bone deformity. forms range from superficial skin lesions, soft tissue infections, joint swellings, deformities frank necrosis gangrene. ranges mild, self-resolving disease fulminant, rapidly progressive that usually eventuates amputation. heterogeneity whose illness grouped collectively under diagnosis has contributed persisting confusion controversy regarding optimal classification system for diabetes-related their appropriate management. Conclusion Optimal involves multimodality approach directed at regular care, blood glucose control, early recognition problems. Appropriate surgical management, administration antibiotics, off-loading techniques necessary prevent progression DFD. (Endocr Pract. 2006;12:583-592)
