Spatial Proximity and Contacts between Elderly Parents and Their Adult Children : A European Comparison

摘要: Using data from the 2004 'Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe' (SHARE), this paper continues extends recent cross-national research on proximity contacts elderly parents to their adult children. To begin with, we provide a brief description 'geography family' ten continental European countries. In multivariate part investigate into determinants intergenerational frequency contact. Even when microlevel factors are controlled for, Mediterranean peoples continue exhibit closer family relations than northern counterparts. We also find noteworthy systematic differences effects some explanatory variables between 'weak' 'strong' When looking at contemporary picture as whole, though, no indication all for 'crisis' relations.
