摘要: Summary A case material of 31 myelomeningoceles from 1963–64 is presented. The two main principles for treatment were: no selection candidates surgery and as early possible. rate accompanying hydrocephalus amenable to was 79 %. total survival 78 % Earlier communications on the subject are discussed in view these our own experiences following conclusions drawn: 1. potential risk future mental retardation a new-born with cannot be regarded conbraindication surgery. 2. existence or extent paralysis legs and/or sphincters contraindications surgery. 3. Contraindicating factors social nature accepted civilized country. 4. Early operation myelomeningocele probably decreases mortality morbidity. operative procedure technically easier possibility further damage neural elements decreased. 5. An effort should made establish communication between open central canal spinal subarachnoid space.
