In this intriguing, original study religious violence, Professor Hector Avalos offers a new theory for role conflicts. Starting with premise that most is result real or perceived scarce resources, persuasively argues creates scarcities basis unverifiable illusory criteria. Through careful analysis fundamental texts Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Dr explains how four 'scarce' resources have figured repeatedly creating violence: sacred space (churches, temples, holy cities); creation scriptures (exclusive revelations); group privilege (chosen people, predestined select few); salvation (only some are saved). Thus, shows, often unnecessary all since over which conflicts ensue not actually need be scarce. Comparing non-religious contexts, makes compelling argument if condemn caused as morally objectionable, then must consider even more objectionable provoked alleged cannot proven to exist. Moreover, he shows many modern academic biblical scholars maintain value despite their violence. This serious philosophical examination roots adds our understanding perennial source widespread human suffering.
