Comorbid Psychiatric Disorders and Predictors of Pain Management Program Success in Patients With Chronic Pain

摘要: Background: This prospective investigation assessed success rates of a pain management program for patients with and without DSM-III-R Axis I II psychiatric disorders. Method: Subjects included 40 consecutive chronic who were referred to physical therapy–oriented, “standard” program. Serial ratings levels measured via visual analogue scale (VAS) at baseline, weekly throughout 12-week program, during follow-up interval 1 month after completion the Weekly reports hours gainful employment recorded. Percentages in each diagnostic group met minimal criteria improvement computed compared. A chi-square analysis conducted on between any disorder, substance abuse/dependence disorder. Results: Overall, 70% (N = 28) found have DIS disorder. There differences those disorders. The presence diagnosis associated significantly lower (p < .05). Conclusion: Patients enrolled this clinic had high prevalence comorbid disorders, these less likely improve standard treatment. In population seeking treatment pain, results suggest need detection further research efficacy interventions management.
