摘要: This project investigated the reproductive and feeding biology of Lamprologus ornatipinnis. Specimens were collected monthly from North Bay, Mbita Island, Zambia for a year. Dentition was examined under scanning electron microscope, stomach contents analysed using Index Relative Importance (IRI) mean Gonado-somatic Indices (GSI) calculated each month to reveal spawning peaks. Both males females possess an outer row six (premaxilla) eight (dentary) enlarged canines. The remaining inner rows consist small, recurved canine-like teeth. lower pharyngeal bone possesses centrally placed molars with increasing number smaller bevelled teeth laterally. dentition is very similar typical benthic arthropod mollusc eater. Stomach content analysis revealed that L. ornatipinnis feeds predominantly on Chironomidae, Copepoda Ostracoda. importance these prey items in diet differed significantly between months sampled. Percentage volume Cyclopoida greater female stomachs than % Chironomidae females. Gonadosomatic values indicated breed throughout Females, however have significant peak (p<0.05) breeding activity July October coincides increased abundance plankton at this time.
