摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses with the properties and mechanism of action eukaryotic fatty acid synthetase (FAS). The various FAS have been classified into two groups according to their structural organization physicochemical properties. type I are multifunctional enzymes divided subclasses, IA, IB. IA synthetases isolated from animal tissues consist identical subunits (α) combined molecular weight near 500,000, or an α2 complex. IB also complexes proteins but in a higher state aggregation. this group may subunits, typified by Mycobacterium smegmatis (α6–α8) , nonidentical (α β), yeast (α6β6). require flavin mononucleotide (FMN) for activity, whereas do not. An additional difference between subclasses is product synthesis: yields free palmitic acid, CoA derivative (palmitoyl-CoA). In II group, there no evidence that component comprise acid-synthesizing system vivo associated. They can be readily separated vitro conventional procedures. not only includes prokaryotes (e.g., E. coli) has shown include plant enzymes.
