Turbo codes for deep-space communications

摘要: Turbo codes were recently proposed by Berrou, Glavieux, and Thitimajshima [2], it has been claimed these achieve near-Shannon-limit error correction performance with relatively simple component large interleavers. A required Eb=No of 0.7 dB was reported for ab rate 10 i 5 , using a 1/2 turbo code [2]. However, some important details that are necessary to reproduce results omitted. This article conflrms the accuracy claims, presents complete description an encoder/decoder pair could be suitable deep-space applications, where lower can used. We describe new method trellis termination, analyze efiect interleaver choice on weight distribution code, introduce use unequal codes, which yields better performance.
