摘要: The history of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease dates back to ancient times. From the teachings Galen response-to-injury hypothesis Russel Ross, we have now arrived at concept vulnerable plaque. Next development new treatment options for patients with atherosclerosis, also novel diagnostic imaging techniques been developed visualise arterial wall characterise plaque composition. In this article historical context attempts towards a noninvasive therapy atherosclerotic diseases are described. (Neth Heart J 2009;17:140-4.)
