摘要: Cities have expanded both territorially and demographically at an unprecedented speed during the recent intense process of urbanization in China. This article investigates material, discursive, social dimensions infrastructural that has been interwoven with discourse practice urban development city Guangzhou since 1990s. It takes a 2007 public hearing concerning short supply taxis on workdays as entry point into politics infrastructure, threading together long-term changes forms, ritual hearing, taxi drivers' downward mobility. The issue heart this is pattern traffic flow caused by late Reform period led to important structural tensions everyday life. Yet, under official ideology development, these are de-humanized rendered mere technical shortage. In present-day China, projects regarded technological solutions wide range political issues urbanization; yet their material results often simply make invisible instead.
