Oral Acyclovir Therapy Accelerates Pain Resolution in Patients with Herpes Zoster: A Meta-analysis of Placebo-Controlled Trials

摘要: Meta-analysis of four double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trials oral acyclovir (800 mg five times daily) for the treatment herpes zoster was conducted to provide definitive assessments effect on resolution zoster-associated pain. The studies involved a total 691 patients, and analysis performed an intent-to-treat basis. A range milestones pain cessation were evaluated by means Cox regression models with adjustment relevant prognostic factors. proportion patients postherpetic neuralgia at 3 6 months also determined. Advancing age more severe presentation associated prolonged Acyclovir clearly shown accelerate all measures employed. Benefit especially evident in 50 years or older. Fewer recipients had months. Overall, reductions duration prevalence approximately twofold.
