摘要: Bariatric surgery is the most effective and durable treatment option for obesity today. More importantly, beyond weight loss, bariatric procedures have many advantageous metabolic effects including reversal of obesity-related liver disease - nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH an important comorbidity given that it a precursor to development cirrhosis may necessitate transplantation in long run. Simultaneously, we others observed increased serum bile acids humans animals undergo surgery. Specifically, our preclinical studies included experimental such as ‘ileal transposition' or diversion established Roux-en-Y gastric bypass adjustable band. Importantly, these are not simply result loss since data show resolution increase seen rodents lose equivalent amount via food restriction. In particular, studied role altered acid signaling, potent impact procedure termed ‘vertical sleeve gastrectomy' (VSG). this review focus on mechanisms after VSG We highlight fact surgeries can be used ‘laboratories' dissect by which work improve fatty disease. describe key signaling elements provide potential therapeutic targets ‘bariatric-mimetic technologies' could produce benefits similar but without surgery!
