Market-based conservation of the Amazonian forests: Revisiting win–win expectations

摘要: Abstract Governments and development organisations consider the involvement of poor forest managers in global value chains markets as a most promising approach for resolving social environmental challenges Amazon. This paper intends to provide clearer picture about opportunities potentials this market-approach, by analysing integrated based initiatives Bolivian, Brazilian, Ecuadorian Peruvian Findings suggest that externally promoted seldom correspond local realities they suffer from limited financial viability due competitive disadvantages locals comparison more capitalized actors. Success stories remain isolated without replication, depend on external support continuation. Only number families provided with privileged have been able overcome technical, institutional hurdles benefit existing market opportunities. In some cases, interventions generated conflicts even weakened organisation. Instead simply copying mistakes past regarding emerging services, it is deemed essential question current focus search alternatives placing greater emphasis interests, cultures capacities people.
