摘要: Two cows, 1 with diarrhea and signs of forestomach outflow obstruction, were treated in part repeated doses a commercially available antacid/cathartic preparation containing magnesium hydroxide. Both cows subsequently determined to have hypermagnesemia, along severe metabolic alkalosis. In addition, each cow was comatose at the time death. A clinical study initiated investigate causal relationship between ingestion hydroxide generation hypermagnesemia alkalosis adult cows. Twelve healthy mature cross bred beef allotted random fed or fasted (simulated anorexia) group, 2 untreated 4 group. single dose (1.5 g/kg body weight, suspended 3.8 L warm water) administered per os cow, whereas control given only water. Individual determinations selected venous blood gas values (plasma bicarbonate ion [HCO3-] concentration, base excess [BE]), serum (Mg) urine fractional clearance ratio (Mg-FCR) made immediately before drug administration, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, 36 hours after treatment. Compared conclusion study, mean Mg Mg-FCR, plasma HCO3- BE significantly higher (P = 0.0001, P 0.0015, 0.028, 0.021, respectively) cows.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
