摘要: The late Ediacaran Billy Springs Formation is a little-studied, mudstone-dominated unit deposited in the Adelaide Rift Complex of South Australia. Sediments are exposed an approximately 11 km × 15 km synclinal structure interpreted as salt-withdrawal minibasin. stratigraphic succession characterized by convolute-laminated slump deposits, rhythmically laminated silty mudstones, rare diamictites and fining-upward turbidite lithofacies. Lithofacies product deposition deepwater slope or shelf setting, representing one few such examples preserved within larger basin. Although exact correlations with other formations unclear, probably represents distal portion highstand systems tract, overlain coarser sediments upper Pound Subgroup. Diamictite intervals to be mass flow processes originating from nearby emergent diapirs, contrast previous studies that suggest glacial origin for extrabasinal clasts. Within spectrum outcropping minibasins around world, described here unique their dominantly fine-grained nature overall lithological homogeneity. Exposures these provide opportunity better understand sedimentological operate environments, analogue similar settings subsurface act hydrocarbon reservoir-trap systems.
