摘要: A Panofsky Long Ion Chamber (PLIC) is essentially a gas-filled coaxial cable, and has been used to protect the Stanford Linear Accelerator from damage caused by its electron beam, also as sensitive diagnostic tool. This old technology updated found renewed use in SLC. PLIC systems have installed beam-steering aids most parts of SLC, are part system that protects SLC several places errant beams. Pulses produced radiation incident cable propagate along thus providing time-resolved indication location beam losses; they particularly helpful establishing tuning The relatively simple provides real-time, easy interpret display losses induced missteering misfocusing. overall layout presented, showing installations. >
