摘要: Abstract Butanol (n-butanol) is considered as an excellent fuel substitute for gasoline, superior to ethanol, and has been used a valuable chemical feedstock in various industries. Biobased production of butanol (biobutanol) through the acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation process history over 100 years was second largest industry first half 20th century. However, with prosperity petrochemical industry, most ABE plants were closed almost all produced routes past decades. In recent years, incessant fluctuations crude oil prices awareness environmental problems, renewed interests are evoked microbial from renewable resources. this book chapter, properties biobutanol applications source discussed. Then different routes include generally introduced. The physiological pathways fermentation, well strains feedstocks then summarized. Recent significant progresses strain development processes also reviewed. Although, commercial now still not economically competitive, it expected that, by taking advantages new technologies relevant aspects, old industrial will be revitalized again near future.
